Why does the U.S. think it's a vegetable and everyone else a fruit? Botanically speaking, a tomato is the ovary, together with its seeds, of a flowering plant, that is a fruit or, more precisely, a berry.
Hmmm... Your thoughts please!
I was doing a food shoot for a client over the weekend and whilst I'd got my lights set up I took a few for myself!
I don't think everyone else thinks it's a fruit. You don't see tomotoes in the fruit section in Tosco for example, no, tomatoes are with the other salad stuff.
Also I think organic tomatoes are sweet, I'm eating one now, yum yum
Here's a tip, slice off the top of the tomato and sprinkle on a little caster suger ( or dunk it like I do) - you will be so surprised at the difference in the taste.
And if you have plenty of green tomatoes, slice, dust in chickpea flour and pan fry in butter and oil - eat while hot..hmmmmmmmm
I must agree with Shella; everyone else does not think it is a fruit. Here, up north, we find it in the vegetable section in the food store. We even teach our children that it is a vegetable, as opposed to berries or fruit. When we serve tomatoes, we say: "Eat your vegetables now!" And never would my children accept a tomatoe ice cream, as opposed to a strawberry ice cream...
Is it really any surprise that we're behind over here? This is, after all, the country that elected Bush TWICE. If we can't get that right do you think something as complex as distiqusing our edibles is possible?
Australia doesnt think its a fruit. Australia KNOWS its categorised as a fruit because it has seeds (apparantly that is why) but we eat it as a vegetable, and some even drink it - which i have to say just simply tastes like cold tomato soup - but moving on now...

Yeah...this is one of the things in life that confuse me. I KNOW it's really a fruit, but I view it as a vegetable...cos it's not sweet, I spose.
Mmmm, not making much sense ;)

I'm with Shella and Celia; it's a vegetable in the east, too. Actually, I learnt that tomato is a fruit here in the states :)
From Wikipedia:-
"Vegetable is a culinary term. Its definition has no scientific value and is somewhat arbitrary and subjective."
So a tomato is a fruit and a vegetable! Both terms are correct.
Fruit !
A Tomato is a fruit and if you check old medival time witches refer to a tomato as a love apple...
Who cares, it's great in all ways and from all perspectives!
Did no one actually like the photograph? ;o)
